October Outreach: International Day of the Girl

If you’ve been following us for a while, you know that we have outreach efforts every couple months. Past examples of these outreach campaigns include One Billion Rising, One Day Without Shoes, Animal Awareness, and Refugee Awareness.

This month, our October Outreach is celebrating International Day of the Girl Child! Throughout the month, you’ll see interesting information about the power of girls as well as great organizations that you can get involved with to make a difference for girls worldwide.

So why International Day of the Girl Child?

Learn more about International Day of the Girl Child by watching the video below from the first annual day in 2011:

In the international development community, there has been a growing emphasis on the impact that empowering women and girls can have on reducing poverty, increasing stability, and strengthening the economy.

For more information about how women and girls have great potential to make long-term change, you can check out sources like Half the Sky and The Girl Effect. Have a source that you’d like to share? Tell us in the comments below or on Twitter using #OctoberOutreach!

International Day of the Girl Child is on Friday, October 11th, but we’ll be celebrating the whole month! This year’s theme is “Innovating for Girls’ Education.”
