Empowering Books for Girls

As part of our October Outreach, we’re celebrating International Day of the Girl by highlighting the importance and potential of girls around the world. But how can we also empower girls here at home? Next time your daughter is looking for a great book, suggest some of these gems!

Danielle Steinberg at PBS has compiled great lists of empowering books for girls in preschool, grade school, and middle school ranges. With a total of 53 selections, these lists are sure to be a great springboard for your child’s reading list!

  • Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine
  • Esperanza Rising by Pam Munoz Ryan
  • Whoever You Are by Mem Fox
  • Matilda by Roald Dahl

Check out Steinberg’s full lists!

Have you read any of these books? Have any to add? Tell us in the comments below or by using #OctoberOutreach!
